Natalya Kochanova said in order to enable conditions to encourage high-caliber athletes, coaches, and other specialists involved in athlete training to participate in sport events, it is necessary to improve the system of material stimulation and the procedure for awarding the Belarus president's scholarships in the area of physical education and sport, the procedure for issuing prizes to athletes, and the payment of remuneration to coaches and other specialists.
In her words, it will help improve the effectiveness of training of Belarusian athletes and will contribute to their successful performance at major international sport competitions.
It is necessary to secure state support and additional social guarantees for athletes with disabilities and special needs, who are champions of Paralympics, Deaflympics, once they reach the general retirement age and create additional stimuli for young athletes with disabilities in order to encourage them to reach high sport results, the senator stressed.
Deputy Chairman of the Education, Science, Culture, and Social Development Commission of the Council of the Republic Dmitry Baskov added that the possibility of introducing scholarships for Olympic champions is under consideration. “After they finish their careers and till the general retirement age. They've dedicated their entire lives to sport, have secured high sport results, but due to various reasons, including health issues, they cannot work even in the administrative capacity,” he added.
