Similar approaches are stipulated by the national strategy on sustainable development till 2030.
Plans have been made to switch to electric motion 30% of passenger transport in Minsk and the oblast capitals, in cities with at least 100,000 people first. Every city and region will have to work out its own transport strategy.
According to the Transport and Communications Ministry, despite advantages of electric vehicles there are technical and economic considerations that slow down their adoption in Belarus. The cost of electricity and the cost of electric vehicles are the economic considerations. The technical considerations include the development of the network of charging stations and the problem of recycling. Belarusian scientists and manufacturers are working on resolving these problems in the course of development of the program document.
A government program to guide the development of electric transport in Belarus in 2020-2025 is being developed. The document provides for making electric vehicles, for carrying out scientific research, for developing new prototypes, for drafting regulations on the use of electric vehicles, and for expanding the network of charging stations. The working group in charge of developing the program includes representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and government agencies.
