Lukashenko congratulates Sabalenka on winning Australian Open final

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has congratulated Aryna Sabalenka on winning a Grand Slam title, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The president was watching, rooting, feeling emotional, using obscene language sometimes, but he predicted the victory in the second and third sets. And, of course, he immediately sent congratulations, the Pul Pervogo Telegram channel writes.

Belarus' Aryna Sabalenka defeated Kazakhstan's world number 25 Elena Rybakina in three sets 4-6, 6:-3, 6-4 in the Australian Open final match in Melbourne.

Aryna Sabalenka was outplayed in the opening set, as she made five double faults and won only four points on the second serve. However, the fifth seed regained accuracy and power to overpower Elena Rybakina in the second and third sets. The match lasted 2 hours and 28 minutes.

Thus, 24-year-old Aryna Sabalenka became the second Belarusian to win the Australian Open singles. Before that, Victoria Azarenka won the title in 2012 and 2013.

Thanks to the successful performance in Melbourne, Aryna Sabalenka will rise up the rankings in the Women's Tennis Association from 5th to 2nd place.
