The level of infectious diseases in the Minsk region decreased by 12% in 2019

The total level of infectious and parasitic morbidity by the end of 2019 is almost 12% lower than in 2018. BelTA was informed about it by the deputy chief physician of the Minsk Regional Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health Irina Milanovich.

A stable and manageable situation of infectious and parasitic diseases in the region was achieved thanks to a complex of preventive and anti-epidemic measures.

In particular, last year 75% of citizens included in the National Calendar of Preventive Vaccinations were vaccinated against flu. In total, according to the results of the vaccination campaign against influenza in 2019, 40.8% of the population received vaccination in the metropolitan region.

In general, in the Minsk region, optimal levels of immunization against vaccine-preventable infections have been achieved among maternal strata (employees of organizations whose activities are related to the production, storage, transportation and sale of food and drinking water, raising and educating children, and public and household services). So, at least 97% of children and about 95% of adults were vaccinated. Therefore, over the past years, cases of tetanus, diphtheria, and polio have not been recorded in the region.

"The epidemiological situation in the world on infectious diseases continues to be tense. Given the geographical location of Belarus and the increased flow of foreign tourists, there is a constant threat of the importation of infectious diseases into the country. Ensuring the constant readiness of state sanitary control institutions for activities on sanitation of the territory and operational interaction with the treatment network - one of the main areas of work for 2020, "concluded Irina Milanovich.
